As my final product, I decided to make salsa verde. I have been using it in meals. For instance, I used it in nachos with chicken. I made the salsa a bit spicy. This is an area I need to master. Next time I make the salsa, I will use 3/4 of the chiles seen in these pictures. Everything else will be the same; three pounds of tomatillos, clove of garlic, and salt. Also, I over blended the ingredients. The salsa does not look as thick as my mom's. However, it does taste like hers.
There's salsa everywhere! Literally there is. After spending hours doing some research on salsas, I discovered my next step with salsa. Salsa is used in a variety of dishes. People have customized it to their liking. For instance, there's salsa that contains pineapple in it. There's also salsa de jalapeño y cilantro.
I am going to customize my mother's recipe. Perhaps come up with my own using different ingredients. I also think that I should learn to make enchiladas. I have a lot of ideas. I am just not sure when these ideas will actually happen.
The video slide created using Animoto shows pictures taken while making the salsa verde.
My 20% Project will be to learn to make salsa(s). I began collecting the ingredients this week. Next week, I am planning on making my first attempt to make home made Mexican salsa. If all goes well, my ultimate goal is to incorporate this salsa into a Mexican dish like tamales. My mother is an awesome cook. Every weekend she makes homemade Mexican cuisine; enchiladas, tamales, pozole, chile con carne, or chiles relleno. She makes homemade tortillas with every meal. I love my food spicy, so my mom always makes either a red or a green salsa/sauce. I have friends who call it sauce whereas others call it salsa. So, if I say sauce or salsa I am referring to the same thing. One of my sisters is learning how to make the salsas. I am thinking of learning as well. I want to learn what makes her salsas spicy, I want to know what the ingredients are, and what makes the flavor of each salsa different. AUTHENTIC QUESTIONS 1. What Web 2.0 tool should I use to record my mother making the salsas, either green or red? 2. Are there similar recipes online? 3. Where can I publish my mom’s recipe? 4. What makes my mom’s recipe unique from others? 5. Where do I find recipes of salsas from other countries? 6. What tool should I use to keep a record of my progress at mastering this recipe? 7. Where should I upload my videos of making the salsa(s)? 8. Should I record my mom tasting my sister’s salsa(s) and mine, and then have her decide whose salsa is more like hers? 9. Is there a place where I can submit a video of individuals’ reactions tasting the salsa(s)? 10. Should I submit a video online teaching others how to make my mom’s salsa(s)? 11. How can I find the history/tradition of these salsa(s)? If there’s any. |
