I began my studies at the age of four. I remembered attending school with my older sister when she was in fourth/fifth grade. I attended elementary school in my hometown. My hometown is in Penjamo, Guanajuato near Guadalajara in Mexico. After elementary school, I worked with my grandparents in their barn and farm. Furthermore, I did not attend middle school because my parents could not afford the cost of my studies.
At the age of fourteen, I moved to the United States. I attended San Pasqual High School in Escondido. My first years there were a struggle due my lack of understanding English. At the same time, I had to work after school to help my family with expenses. The last two years in high school were amazing. I played sports; Cross-Country and Track & Field. I also joined the MECHA club. In addition, I graduated as first generation student.
After high school, I went on to Palomar College for two years and then, transferred to California State University of San Marcos. I graduated from CSUSM with a B.A. in Liberal Studies and minor in Mathematics. During that time, I supported myself and family by having three jobs. As a result, I had to give up socialize with my peers outside of work and school. As of today that is something that I regret, but I had to do what was needed for my family and my education.
I have achieved many goals. I graduated from high school, have a college education, and purchased my first home for my parents. I am successfully teaching my third year at a local high school. I am a role model for what can be accomplished with hard work and determination.
