| I am someone who considers everything to be urgent and important. I look at things that way because though they may not be as important to me, they may be important to someone else. Therefore, I want to complete tasks as soon as possible. I do not like to wait until tomorrow to complete a task that can be completed today. The sooner I complete the things that I need to get done, the better I feel. I feel relaxed, I enjoy my time, and find myself having extra time, which means that I can spend more time working out or being with family or friends. For instance, I have a tendency of submitting assignments days before they are due. As a result of this habit, I have the time to enjoy the things that I appreciate the most such as working out, reading, taking long walks, spend time with family and friends, and reading the latest news about the stock market. |
“If I have the time now, get it done now. There’s no need to wait until tomorrow.” This is a quote that I have always remembered, and it gives me motivation to immediately complete tasks if I have the time. Therefore, I may fall in quadrant one and be a “prioritizer” as described by Stephen Covey. However, I also see myself in quadrant two as at times I feel less motivated and do not feel like completing things that are not urgent. This is the case when it comes to my personal life outside of work and school. It is rare for me, but sometimes I do not complete tasks as soon as I could because other individuals may be doing the same task, and consequently I know that the may take longer to complete it even if I do not complete my task as soon as I could. Stephen Covey describes four types of “time quadrants.” We all may think we fall into one or two, but I think we all fall into each of the four quadrants from time to time. There are times in our lives that we fall in the “slacker” quadrant. Perhaps not when it comes to work, but I see myself in that quadrant when it comes to my life outside of work and school. However, there’s one or two quadrants that most accurately describe our habits. I am a procrastinator yet a prioritizer. I detest being late to work. I do not feel well when I do not workout five times a week, I may get upset with myself if I do not meet a deadline or put things off until the due date. So, I prioritize my time wisely so that I can do the things I enjoy the most such as going to the gym after work and meeting up with my family and friends for lunch on the weekend. | In sum, my regular schedule looks as follows. Monday-Friday Be at work by 7:00 am Take care of personal stuff such as emails, phone calls, etc… Leave work at 5:00 pm I go to the gym after work three times during the week. I workout for at least an hour. I get home around 6:30-7:00 p.m., then do homework, eat dinner, etc. Saturday I get up at 7:00 a.m. I go to the gym for two hours. I have lunch with my family and spend a couple of hours with them. I usually do classwork from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday I go to the gym at 7:00 a.m. I workout for two hours. I typically to do classwork from 10:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. Have lunch with friends for one hour, usually at 1:00 p.m. Continue doing homework after lunch until 7:00 p.m. |
